Inclement Weather Information

Any adjustments to the school schedule due to inclement weather will be communicated to all families through a ParentSquare alert. Communication will also be provided via local radio and news channels (WCCO 4, KARE 11, FOX 9, KSTP 5, WDIO), as well as on the district website and social media. Detailed information regarding this process can be found below.

Inclement Weather Decision-Making Process

When school is two hours late due to inclement weather, you can expect the following:

  1. To be notified through a ParentSquare alert by 5:00 AM or sooner that school will start two hours late.
  2. If your student(s) ride district transportation, their pick-up time will be delayed by 2 hours—for example, if your student is picked up at 7:22 AM, they will be picked up at 9:22 AM
  3. School doors typically open at 7:30 AM. On a late start, they will open at 9:30 AM. Breakfast will still be served during a two-hour late start.

If schools were to be closed for the day due to weather, a snow day would be called.

When school is closed due to inclement weather, you can expect:

  1. To be notified through a ParentSquare alert by 5:00 AM or sooner that schools are closed.
  2. Two snow days have been built into the school calendar. The first snow makeup day would be on Presidents' Day, if needed. The second snow makeup day would be in April during a previously designated District In-service day.

When school is released early due to inclement weather, you can expect:

  1. You will be notified by a ParentSquare alert at least 2 hours before the release or sooner when possible.
  2. Early release time is typically 2 hours before the end of the school day.
  3. If your student(s) ride district transportation, their drop-off time will typically be two hours earlier—for example, if your student normally gets dropped off at 4:22 PM, their estimated drop-off time will be 2:22 PM, understanding that weather may delay routes a little to ensure safety.
  4. If your student is picked up, you can come pick them up once the notification has been sent.
  5. STAFF will remain on-site until all students are picked up and all buses have returned from their routes.

Before and After School Activities:

Additional communications will occur specifically for these programs and activities, depending on inclement weather.

Please know that, as parents/guardians, you need to make the best decisions for your students during times of inclement weather. If you choose to keep your student home due to inclement weather when school is in session, please call your student's school attendance office, and their absence will be excused.
