Brainerd Public Schools have a history of documented choral and instrumental music education and performance beginning at least in the early 1900s. The record of achievement and growth in the music of BPS has, through time, been a product of masterful educators, superlative students and a receptive and supportive community.
BHS graduates have gone on to perform at high levels in outstanding collegiate music programs, in institutes dedicated to music performance and the music industry, as well as in professional performance and directing, and within the business world of the music industry. BHS music educators have created music instructional programs and have frequently been recognized, officially and informally, by peers as outstanding educators and directors.
Beginning in the 1960s, some of the performances of BHS ensembles were recorded in concert, in studio or both. Much of that recorded music is subject to copyright restrictions and is not reproducible. BPS Archives holds physical copies of BHS music “held” in various media, some of which are no longer playable.
