It was an evening for some local residents from the Brainerd Lakes community to shine and be recognized, even though they may shun the spotlight.
The 19th annual Distinguished Service Awards Banquet was Thursday at the NP Event Center to honor those "who go above and beyond to give back to the Brainerd lakes area."
Outstanding Educator of the Year
Nicole Harmer graduated from Brainerd High School in 1991, but she probably didn't know then that she would be recognized some day as 2017 Outstanding Educator of the Year.
