Welcome to the 2017-18 School Year!

Welcome to the 2017-18 School Year!  As I begin my second year as Superintendent at ISD 181, I continue to be amazed by the unending community support that exists for our students and school district! Warrior school spirit radiates throughout the community as fans proudly adorn the Blue, White & Silver!

Brainerd Public Schools enjoy a rich and strong tradition as a dynamic, forward-thinking and highly respected leader in Minnesota’s educational system. The District couldn’t have chosen a better color to represent them as the color blue is associated with depth and stability. It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, clarity, intelligence, and truth. These values permeate our school district. Together, we are proud to be, “True Blue.

At the numerous Warrior events I attended during my first year as superintendent, it was a staple to hear the cheerleaders and marching band leading the crowd in a chant of, “GO BIG BLUE!”  As this academic year begins, I hope the excitement and school spirit you feel when cheering on your favorite Warrior teams will continue in all aspects of academics, arts, activities, and athletics.

Solidifying our tradition of “True Blue,” I am thrilled with the District’s choice of Aaron Sinclair as our Assistant Superintendent, the newest member on our Warrior team. Our philosophy of education, our background knowledge in student success, our emphasis on workforce development and technology integration, and our vision for the future of Brainerd Public Schools run parallel with one another. I believe that our leadership styles are collaborative and cooperative as we work together to communicate our District’s vision and mission with the Board of Education, students, staff, families and community.

Listening to our community is one of my favorite parts of being your superintendent. Carrying on the spirit of “True Blue,” in February 2017, the District began a series of meetings to listen to feedback from our stakeholders regarding our comprehensive facilities planning. To best communicate the six-phase facility process, we refer to our plan as, “Blueprint 181.” Blueprint 181 is committed to investing, growing, and leading Brainerd Public Schools to achieve innovation, opportunity, and success for all learners! Your voice is vital as we move forward with the task of prioritizing the needs of our school buildings and the role they play in creating opportunities for our students.

On behalf of the Board of Education and all district staff members, we encourage your participation and value your input as we strive to create the highest quality learning environment for student success. Together and in partnership with the community, we embrace Blue, as we build on the district’s proud past to sustain a promising future for all learners. I encourage everyone to follow our progress at, the new website we have dedicated to providing up-to-date information to our community.

Thank you for all you do to support our students in their educational journey. Together, we carry on the culture of the, “True Blue.” If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the appropriate building principal or me at 218-454-6912. I extend my sincere best wishes for a positive, productive and promising school year… “GO BIG BLUE!”
