1)  Q How can my son/daughter be successful in Mr. Hodges Science class?
A
Most importantly is attendance, then comes attentiveness and effort. Grades are based on total points so these are some great suggestions for success.

1. Come to class prepared. I know it's a canned statement, but roughly 10% of students each day do not have a book, something to write on or a pencil or pen. Oh, don't forget that agenda, I only let students leave class if they have an agend with some passes left in it.

2. Complete your work on time. Key words, complete and on time. There are penalties for late work. Students that don't complete all work for the trimester will not pass science.

3. Do your best. Rarely does a student that shows effort, fail Science. Many of our points are based on participation and effort.
2)  Q Are there any good websites that would help my student with projects and or homework?
A

Yes, by all means, use the internet for extra research. I am always finding new sites that are valuable. And keep in mind that our textbook is completely on line and has a lot of extra activities for the kids. Each student was given a log-in and password at the beginning of the year to access their textbook. (Hint, when you hear "I left my science book at home" you can say, "no problem we will just log into your online book." go to google and put in my.hrw.com and it will take you to the Holt website. Also try these great sites. 1. weatherquestions.com 2. sciencespot.net 3. minerals.net 4. chem4kids.com/

3)  Q What supplies should my student have to start the school year?
A
We provide a book and website access. If your student comes to class on the first day or so with the following items, they will be ready for science. These are recommendations based on what I think is best, some students may need some slight changes to be successful.

1. A box or two of tissues.
2. A box of pencils (pay a little more and get Ticonderoga pencils, they sharpen in our sharpeners the best).
3. A notebook that is just for science, green is a good color. (Don't get the perforated pages, they fall out). And a folder.
4. A box of colored pencils.
5. Some black and blue pens.
