This is the image for the news article titled ISD 181 Viewpoint: Listening to our students is vital to successAs superintendent of Brainerd Public Schools I have been blessed over the last two years to serve this school district and community. I have said it before and I will continue to say it—I am continually impressed by the unending support for our students, staff and community.

At Brainerd Public Schools, we have amazing parents and families; excellent teachers and support staff who give so much of themselves to their students; a dedicated administrative team who keep our busses, buildings, and cafeterias running smoothly; community partnerships focused on education; and a Board of Education dedicated to research-based decision-making on behalf of our students, staff, and providing highest-quality educational opportunities in our school district.

We are truly a community working towards one goal—providing all of our students unlimited opportunity, innovation, and success! Hearing directly from our students is essential for ensuring success of our district.

Brainerd High School and Forestview Middle School students have been invited by the Board of Education to speak at monthly board meetings to update the public on district happenings.

I continue to host a monthly "Lunch with Laine" at each of our schools. I truly enjoy these opportunities to connect with our students and learn about their school experience, what they love about their school, what they're looking forward to in the coming year, and ideas they have to improve upon the student experience.

As we work on the plans for the Brainerd High School Blueprint 181 building projects, it has been a joy to have students join teachers and community members as we tour other school facilities around the region. Their insights and opinions have been invaluable to our planning process. I am always impressed by their willingness to engage in a planning process for a project that will not be complete until they have graduated. I love the attitude of paying it forward to the younger students in this community who will benefit from our improved high school campus.

I am so incredibly grateful and appreciative to have the opportunity to serve as your Superintendent of Schools in this beautiful community, to provide vision and leadership for the future, to listen and work on behalf of our learners.
