Communications

The Brainerd Public Schools Communications department places a high value on the connections we have with students, families, and the community.

We communicate in a wide variety of ways so that you can receive news and information that works best for you.

  • Parents, Staff, Students, and Community Members can all help communicate the great things happening in our schools. Please submit your news, story ideas, and photographs HERE.

  • In accordance with Board of Education Policy 904, any non-school person wishing to distribute materials must first submit for approval a copy of the materials to the office of the superintendent at least five days in advance of the desired distribution time. A sample of the materials must accompany the form below.

  • Below is the district’s process for addressing requests for public data.  Upon submission, please provide information regarding the specific documents you wish to inspect.

All requests for data pursuant to the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act (MGDPA) must be submitted in writing via e-mail or via mail addressed to Brainerd Public Schools, Attn: Interim Superintendent, Peter Grant, 804 Oak Street, Brainerd, MN 56401. Requests must contain the information outlined in Form 722F, which is linked below.

The requirements of the MGDPA will govern the timing of the District’s responses to your data requests. For general requests to inspect data, the District is required to make data available for inspection “at reasonable times and places.” Minn. Stat. § 13.03, subd. 3(a). A reasonable time for responding to a data request is dependent upon the amount of data requested. A reasonable time does not mean an “immediate” response. If you request data of which you are the subject, the District has up to ten days, excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and legal holidays, to respond. Minn. Stat. § 13.04.

Pursuant to the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act, the District may charge for its actual costs of searching for and retrieving the data, including the cost of employee time, and for making, certifying, and electronically transmitting copies of the data.  See Minn. Stat. 13.03, subd. 3(c).
