School Board Suspends Superintendent Search Process and Hires Interim Superintendent

The Brainerd School Board has suspended their search for a new superintendent and will hire an interim superintendent for the 2024-25 school year. At a special board meeting held June 4, 2024, the board voted unanimously to offer the interim position to Peter Grant, former superintendent of Owatonna Public Schools, and a contract is expected to be approved on Monday, June 10.

The Board plans to re-launch the search for a permanent superintendent this Fall, and more information will be provided as plans develop surrounding the search process.


The Brainerd Public School Board is working in partnership with the Minnesota School Board Association (MSBA) to select a new superintendent through a local and national search. Brainerd Public Schools is committed to ensuring effective communication throughout the search process. The district will share information on this webpage throughout the process.

Search Process Overview

Over the course of the next month, the Brainerd Public Schools Board of Education will work with MSBA to select the district's next superintendent. The search process will include the following:

MASA, EdPost,  Revelus), advertises
position vacancy, receives  applications,
and responds to applicants’ inquiries
 April 12, 2024   MSBA conducts Search Preview meetings
