There is always a flurry of activity as the end of the school year approaches! From the kick-off of spring sports, theater productions, musical performances and banquets, this spring at the school district is no exception.
On top of all of the student activities, the building projects keep rolling along.
At the end of March, sealed bids submitted by contractors for building projects at Nisswa Elementary and Forestview Middle schools were officially opened during public meetings. The bids will be processed and recommendations for awarding these bids will be forwarded to the Board of Education for action in April. The bids for Harrison Elementary School were opened April 2 and the bids for the new elementary school in Baxter will be opened on Tuesday, April 9.
On March 18, the Board of Education approved resolutions authorizing the purchase of eight properties needed to accommodate expansion at Brainerd High School and Garfield, Harrison and Lowell elementary schools.
Property taxes on more than 20 properties were recently abated for the next 15 years by the Board of Education to make way for the improvement and construction of parking lots. The district will not levy these properties and will instead issue bonds to cover construction and maintenance costs.
Now that the first wave of projects at Brainerd High School, Forestview Middle School, Harrison, Nisswa and the new elementary school are well under way, the next projects have begun. Teams of staff from Early Childhood, Garfield, Lowell and Riverside elementary schools are working with architects on the designs. As the first stage of those designs are completed but before they go to the Board of Education for approval, we will invite the public to review them and provide us feedback.
I want to take this opportunity to once again thank you, our community, for your unending support and investment in student learning. We, at Brainerd Public Schools, are most appreciative!
If you have ideas, questions or suggestions to share about the building projects, we are
still listening and want to hear from you! Send us your thoughts at
