Superintendent

Chip Rankin became Superintendent of Brainerd Public Schools on July 1, 2026. He brings more than 28 years of public education experience, including nine years as superintendent of Minnewaska Area Schools and prior service as a building principal. A longtime resident of the Brainerd Lakes area, he is active in the community through his church, Rotary, and veteran organizations. He also serves as a Brigadier General in the Minnesota Army National Guard, with more than three decades of service, including brigade command and overseas deployments. He and his wife, Dr. Rebecca Rankin, are raising their family in the lakes area, where he enjoys hunting, fishing, and the outdoors.
