Brainerd School Board Approves Contract for New Superintendent Chip Rankin

The Brainerd Public Schools Board of Education voted today to approve the employment contract for Mr. Chip Rankin as the district’s next superintendent.
Mr. Rankin currently serves as superintendent of the Minnewaska School District and brings more than 25 years of experience in school district and military leadership. He will officially begin his role with Brainerd Public Schools on July 1.
The three-year contract includes a first-year salary of $235,000, with 2% increases in years two and three. The agreement also provides a 403(b) match of up to $6,500 annually, a $650 monthly vehicle allowance, a $50 monthly cell phone allowance, and 30 days of vacation. Mr. Rankin will not participate in the district’s insurance plan.
Board Chair Sarah Speer stated that the compensation package aligns with comparable districts and the district’s long-term budget plan.
The Board also expressed appreciation to outgoing Superintendent Peter Grant for his leadership and service to the district. The transition process is already underway to ensure continuity through July 1.
