Career Pathways and Real-World Learning Opportunities for Brainerd High School Students

Brainerd High School continues to redefine the high school experience by expanding student-centered Career Pathways that connect classroom learning to real-world opportunities. Over the past several years, the district has expanded coursework, hands-on learning experiences, and community partnerships across 23 areas of concentration, helping students discover direction, purpose, and confidence as they prepare for life after graduation.
Through workplace tours, guest speakers, career fairs, job shadows, informational interviews, and internships, students engage in meaningful career exploration that connects their strengths and interests to future career opportunities while building practical, workforce-ready skills.
One of the district’s newest opportunities includes the launch of its first HOSA-Future Health Professionals chapter at Brainerd Public Schools. Led by four student officers, the chapter is focused on expanding healthcare career exploration and leadership opportunities for students interested in medical and health-related fields.
As part of the chapter’s activities, Zach Burtsfield from Essentia Health visited with students to discuss educational pathways, the role physical therapists play in patient care, and the rewarding aspects of working in healthcare. Students also participated in hands-on learning activities that introduced them to examples of direct patient care.
Through continued investment in Career Pathways, community partnerships, and experiential learning, Brainerd High School remains committed to preparing students for success in college, careers, and life beyond graduation.
