Brainerd Public Schools recognizes three staff members as recipients of this year’s Above and Beyond awards. The annual award honors employees who inspire others with their positive attitude and consistently exceed expectations to help students succeed. This year’s honorees are Jennifer Lindholm, Sarah Wettstein-Edinger and Leslie Zander.

Lindholm is a secretary at the Warrior Early Learning Center and has served the district for 16 years. Reading from her nomination, Harrison Elementary Principal James Conrad described Lindholm as a person who “builds strong, positive relationships with staff, families, and students. Whenever there is a need, they step in without hesitation — whether it’s taking a temperature, contacting a family, caring for a child, preparing paperwork, problem-solving with staff, or welcoming families into the building.”

Wettstein-Edinger retired from teaching in 2023 but realized her work with students was not finished. She returned to the district as a paraprofessional, dedicating herself to some of the most vulnerable learners. One colleague shared, "I have worked beside Sarah for more than 20 years and have never met a teacher more dedicated or beloved." Students echoed those sentiments, describing her as kind, caring, patient and someone who always knows how to brighten their day.

Zander teaches the sixth through 12th grade orchestra program and is in her 27th year — both in the district and in her teaching career. Former Forestview Middle School Principal Tammy Stellmach shared that “Leslie isn't just teaching students how to play an instrument. She is helping them find confidence, community, and perhaps a passion that will stay with them long after they leave our schools. As a mom of a former cello player, I can attest to the impact she has made on him.”

All Brainerd Public Schools employees are eligible for the Above and Beyond award, and anyone in the community may submit nominations. Nominations are collected each spring.
