The Brainerd Schools Indigenous Education Program invites Warrior staff, students, families, and community neighbors to gather for the 3rd Annual Indigenous Peoples Celebration: Connecting Past and Present.

The free event will take place on Monday, October 12, from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Gichi-ziibi Center for the Arts in Brainerd. Attendees are welcome to stay for the entire program or drop in as their schedules allow.

Designed to foster connection, cultural appreciation, and reflection, the evening offers an engaging array of activities and cultural showcases:

• 4:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. | Cultural Demonstrations, Market & Meal:

  • Student-Led Drum Performances: Honoring Ojibwe heritage and student leadership through rhythm and song.

  • Birch Bark Craft Demonstrations: Showcasing traditional artisan techniques.

  • Local Artisan Vendors: Highlighting native craftsmanship and local artists.

  • Free Community Meal: Featuring wild rice hotdish and fresh fry bread served to all guests.

• 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. | Film Screening & Facilitated Discussion:

  • A community presentation of the film Medicine Ball, followed by an open, facilitated discussion on the themes presented.
